It is Miami University policy to hold scheduled classes, except during emergency situations.
The decision to cancel classes on the regional campuses/locations will be posted to the Miami University Regionals website and campus status lines by 6:30 a.m. for day classes and by 3:30 p.m. for evening classes.
An Emergency Text Message will also be sent to subscribers. (If you haven't already done so, subscribe to the Emergency Text Messaging System now. Although unlikely, it is possible that one of the regional locations might close, while the other locations remain open. )
In bad weather, the regional locations will make every reasonable effort to remain open. It is expected that all faculty members will make every effort to hold class when the campus/location is open. However, if an instructor deems it absolutely necessary to cancel a specific class despite the fact that the campus/location is open, then the instructor is expected to call the appropriate campus (Hamilton or Middletown) for posting on the campus status lines and the Miami University Regionals website at least one hour before the class is scheduled to begin. A statement which may be used from time-to-time for cancellations and closings at the regional campuses is:
Plan A – classes are canceled, but all staff report as usual.
Plan B – campus is closed, but designated weather emergency staff should report as usual.

When university hours are delayed, classes that start before the delayed time are canceled. (For example, if classes were delayed until 10 am, then a class beginning at 9:30 am would be canceled,while a class starting at 10 am would be held.)
If classes are canceled during final exams, faculty and students should consult the Miami University Regionals website for the revised exam schedule. The Public Relations offices will continually update the campus status lines and the websites with the list of any classes not being held that day.
Students taking classes at the Greentree Health Science Academy, should follow closing/delay instructions for Miami University Middletown. There may be instances when our partners at Greentree have canceled classes but we have not.

When there is a cancellation at VOALC a listserv message is also sent to subscribers via their respective listservs.
Be aware that news agencies have their own language for reporting cancellations and closings. That language is often different from what the campus reports to them. Accordingly, the best source of information is the Emergency Text Messaging System, campus websites and campus status lines.
